18 - DepEd's BESRA to 'plug the holes'

The Department of Education (DepEd) presented on Tuesday the Basic Education Sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) which aims to `plug the holes' of the country's basic public education system

"It aims to re-visit and revise all policies and systems that hinder performance improvements," DepEd Secretary Jesli Lapus said.

Lapus has assured the support of his administration to the program, formulated by his predecessors to address problems of basic education.

The BESRA aims to focus on five critical thrusts like school-based management which allows school authorities to address swiftly their needs and concern with the participation of the community.

Under the program, the competency of the teachers will also be addressed through a whole range of teacher preparation.

The BESRA also aims to assure quality education by assuring the conformity of national learning strategies and procedures to standards by all stakeholders of basic education.

The early childhood education will also be evaluated through effort to revisit policies to maximize contributions on improvements of learning outcomes.

Lastly, BESRA aims to re-engineer and modernize the entire DepEd.
